HELP ME FUND MY NEXT ALBUM!

Dear Friends,

After 21 years, I’m about to embark on the next chapter of my career / launch a new project. It’s a big step and I’m really excited.

In order to take this step, I'm launching a crowdfunding campaign to help me realize my dream of recording the music of my main musical inspiration, jazz giant Bud Powell. Unfortunately, it is not that simple.  From paying musicians, to studio time, to post-production costs, the expenses add up. I’m asking you to contribute so that we can achieve our dreams together!

I’m looking forward to making lots of fun offerings available, such as
    • Album availability before the release date.
    • Exclusive video and audio content
    • Bonus performance material
    • A song composed specifically for you
    • Piano lessons via Skype or FaceTime
    • House concert performances with my trio or quintet
    • Executive producer credit on the album

A major factor in succeeding with a crowdfunding campaign is asking people in your closest circle of trusted friends first to get the ball rolling, so here I am asking you!

This project is so important to me because the music of Bud Powell, as a composer, has been grossly under-represented and under-appreciated. I’m hoping to shed much more light on the importance of Bud Powell as a composer. As a musician, and as I get older, it is becoming increasingly important that I start documenting my artistic work.  This project can help be the launch pad for many more.

Please join me in bringing my best work into the world and I look forward to sharing Oblivion: The Music of Bud Powell with you!

Sincerely yours,
Tim

Tim Whalen Quartet DEBUT!

The Tim Whalen Quartet had an incredible night at Dukem Jazz this past Thursday Febuary 6th.  In addition to Tim, this group features some of DC's top musicians, Tedd Baker on tenor saxophone, Zack Pride on bass, and CV Dashiell III on drums.  Keep an eye out for this group, both on stage and in the studio!

THANK YOU, KENNESAW STATE UNIVERSITY

I had an incredible week last week at the Kennesaw State University School of Music in Atlanta, where the student orchestra played my arrangements of the music of The Who.  We also had a 4 piece rock band, which I was a part of, playing piano and singing all the songs.  Pictured above (L to R) are Marc Miller (bass, Atlanta), me, my good friend Jamie Ryan (drums, Champaign IL), and Trey Wright (guitar, Atlanta).  These guys killed it!

Speaking of killing it, the students absolutely blew me away!  They played my orchestrations with total professionalism and musicality, and they made it an unforgettable experience.  To top it off, the we had a sold out crowd, and they went ballistic!  It's rare to play a concert where you get several standing ovations throughout a concert.  Unforgettable!
