Tim Whalen

Tim Whalen Nonet

Magnus
(WayHay Music 2008)

Produced by Tim Whalen

This is Tim Whalen's first release as a leader, and the first of many for this amazing group.  It gives a glimpse into Tim's creativity as a composer, and proves right before your ears just how good this band is live.

Tom Gullion

Carswell
(TingJing Music 2009)

Tom Gullion and Tim have been playing together for about 4 years now. He is one of the most creative saxophonists you will ever hear, in any situation.  There are some incredible musicians on this album, including Ernie Adams, Dane Richeson (drums), Mark Urness, Shawn Sommer (bass), Dave Cooper (trumpet), and Vijay Tellis-Nayak (piano).

Tim plays on Monkey's Tale, Mellowing, Right on Time, and Futureproof.

Clyde Stubblefield

The Original
(Nardis Music 2003)

Produced by Leo Sidran
Hippest March: Part 2 written by Tim Whalen

This was an interesting track because the whole thing started with Clyde recording an improvised groove by himself, and Tim wrote the music based on that improvised groove.

It was a lot of fun, and I was thrilled to be a small part of Clyde Stubblefield's incredible contribution to American music!

Jorge Drexler "Al Otro Lado del Rio"
from the film the Motorcyle Diaires

In the summer of 2003, singer/songwriter Jorge Drexler visited Madison, WI.  While on holiday there, he received a call from his management that a film was being made about Che Guevara's early adult life, and that the filmmakers would like him to write the song for the movie.  The song "Al Otro Lado del Rio" was written and produced in Madison, WI at Leo Sidran's studio, and Tim was enlisted to help with the string orchestrations on the recording.

This song won the 2005 Oscar for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture.
